So here we are standing on the banks of the Jordon, ready to cross. In all the excitement of getting ready you suddenly remember there is a walled city on the other side and at that point you have a decision to make. Do I trust God to defeat all my enemies just as He said He would or will I be turned away and have to head back into the desert because I am afraid of what is on the other side? Will I follow the word of God into the Promised Land He has already prepared for us or not? As the word of God lays open before us, we have to decide if we believe all of God’s word or not. Do you have the spirit that was in Caleb or do have the spirit of those who feared? This passage in Psalm 78 sums up the journey of many so-called Christians. It says, “in spite of all this, they kept on sinning; in spite of his wonders, they did not believe. 33 So he ended their days in futility and their years in terror. 34 Whenever God slew them, they would seek him; they eagerly turned to him again. 35 They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer. 36 But then they would flatter him with their mouths, lying to him with their tongues; 37 their hearts were not loyal to him, they were not faithful to his covenant.” We do not want to come to the river’s edge only to be turned away because we flatter God with our mouths and are not faithful followers of His word. Remember we can fool others but not God. It is time to get serious about our relationship with Jesus Christ. This is no picnic at the beach where we sit under umbrellas looking out across the river to the other side. This is storming the lands of the enemy because no one will stand against you. As Palm Sunday approaches are you going to be the one who shouts Hosanna to the Son of David, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the lord, Hosanna in the highest or are you going to be the ones who are indignant towards the saviour? Will you be saying have mercy son of David or crucify Him. Remember Hebrews 10:29 “How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?” You could actually be one of the ones shouting those dreadful words. Is your heart in the right place? Does your tongue praise Jesus Christ? Do you live day in and day out with Jesus as your rock and redeemer? If you cannot say you do this then go back to the beginning with Jesus and repent. He will then lead you to places you have never been.
