Not By Strength

When I started my fast, let’s just say I was a man of discipline in some areas. Yes I can read the bible daily and write my blog but when it came to food, that was a whole different story. What I have now is working towards a complete spiritual discipline. You will notice I said working toward. My eating was something that depressed me because I just could not get it under control. It was always on mind and watching that crazy digital scale go up and up was hard on the system both mentally and physically. When I hit the 300 mark it was getting bad. As my wife will tell you I would get defensive when she told me to be careful and stop eating so much. I even had the nerve to make excuses for my eating. Sorry sweetheart you were right, I was defensive. I am sorry! You see there is always someone bigger than I was. Isn’t that crazy. I struggled with this daily. I prayed daily and then God heard and healed me. Even during this struggle I knew I was not supposed to go to any other source other then God. I refused to give man or women credit for this. The one thing you will notice with most “diet” programs (they always say it is not a diet but a lifestyle choice). Don’t let them fool you it is a program and as soon as you leave it and the fees, you usually gain back the weight. The lifestyle part is true and so is the part about leaving the program. In my case the lifestyle is living wholeheartedly for God. That will never change even on till eternity. Programs come and go but as John 1:15 states, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.” I am amazed at how many will give credit to man and not God. Another thing you will notice is that every diet promotion is exactly the same. They say follow our program and we will send you this guide on how to eat right. When I use to workout at Good Life, I was frustrated one day (again) because I was not loosing weight. One of the trainers told me a secret. She said 80% of getting in shape is eating right 20% working out. Another said 80% eating, 10% working out and 10% your body makeup. Don’t get me wrong, wrong working out is good for you but what makes the most difference is eating right. I did try some programs but they did not work. You see they cannot take away your cravings. What works every time is God. Don’t use something else and then give credit to God. Save yourself a lot of money and eat right. The disciplined life is all about eating right. In both the physical realm and the spiritual we must eat right. We cannot expect to be physically fit and eat junk. We cannot expect to be spiritually fit and eat junk. 1 Samuel 2 “Then Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. 2 “There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. “It is not by strength that one prevails; those who oppose the Lord will be shattered. He will thunder against them from heaven; the Lord will judge the ends of the earth. “He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed. So if you are struggling with this go to Lord and as Isaiah 40:31 states “those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
