No one really wants to be called a fool. A fool is defined as “a person lacking in judgement.” There are some very intelligent people who have become fools due to a lack of sound judgement. Yes, you can make a foolish decision like buying a car unseen or investing in that too good to be true business opportunity, even when advised not too (Proverbs 12:15 “The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.”) but there is no greater lack of sound judgment than rejecting God as it has eternal consequences. Psalm 14:1 “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” Rejecting God is not just about saying there is no God as many do. There are other ways to say there is no God. By rejecting the bible, God’s word, you are saying there is no God. By rejecting parts of God’s word, you are saying there is no God. By rejecting Jesus as Messiah and King, you are saying there is no God. When you do not obey, you are saying there is no God and become a fool. When you say there is no God that makes you a god. Ezekiel 28:2 “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “‘In the pride of your heart you say, “I am a god. “‘Because you think you are wise, as wise as a god, 7 I am going to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations; they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom and pierce your shining splendor. 8 They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas. 9 Will you then say, “I am a god,” in the presence of those who kill you?” You do not want to stand before God and say you are god. These verses were also about satan who wanted to be God. Due to the foolishness of the church, the church rebelled which allowed satan to rule over the church and get what he wanted for a time. 2 Thessalonians 2:4 “He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.” Anyone who rejects God accepts satan as their king.

Everyday people reject God but are without excuse. Every time you look at the stars and moon or enjoy the sunshine, Romans 1:18 “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.” Instead of looking around at God’s amazing creation and bowing before the creator, they refuse to acknowledge the creator even exists. Isaiah 40:28 “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.”

This takes us back to the beginning of the world. Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” To put it bluntly, if you do not accept this very first verse of the bible, you have become a fool and in your heart are saying there is no God. People will say they accept the verse but don’t really believe the seven day part. I had to take an introduction to the denomination class and the guy teaching actually did not agree that the world was created in seven days. So, you had a unbeliever teaching a class about spreading the gospel. I say unbeliever because by not believing in something as simple (for God) to create the world in six days and rest on the seventh day, he was a fool who said not only in his heart but out loud that there is no God. This really isn’t a discussion about creation because there is no argument. The bible says seven days and that meant seven days, otherwise you have to reject other verses in the bible. You can’t argue with people because this is about faith. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” If you don’t believe the very first verse of the bible, then you will not believe much of the rest. You would also have to delete verses like Exodus 20:11 “For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.” And this one Exodus 31:17 “It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’” Throughout the bible there are reference to a seven day week just as we still have. Exodus 31:15 “For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the Lord.” If someone said to you the seven days that just went by or the ones coming up were not actually seven days, you would laugh. Yes, scientists want you to believe otherwise. Some want you not to believe in God but a god particle that always was and big boom that created a perfect world even though never has there been a boom that created perfection. They even tried to come up with a theory of everything. This is “a term for the ultimate theory of the universe—a set of equations capable of describing all phenomena that have been observed, or that will ever be observed.” Where could we find something like that that would explain everything? One person said, “So far, an overarching theory of everything has eluded scientists, and some believe the ultimate goal is unrealistic.” So instead of acknowledging God is the theory of everything, they continue to search. All you have to do is ask them to take a picture of the edge of the universe. The further they go out, the more there is. Instead of looking to the stars and believing there is a god, they became fools instead.

You really can’t blame people for not believing in God because when you look at the church, many in the church don’t believe God either. It really is hard to see God’s handiwork, as the handiwork of man is front and center. The bible has been set aside for man’s own reasoning, their traditions, and experiences. Jesus said Mark 7:6 “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 7 They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ 8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” Much of the bible is rejected, distorted, added to, or taken from but if you actually believed God is sovereign and all powerful, you would not do that. Ecclesiastes 5:1 “Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. 4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.” By rejecting God’s word they say in their heart, there is no God. People in the church do not take the living word of God seriously. Look what happened to King Saul. 1 Samuel 13:13 “You have done a foolish thing,” Samuel said. “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. 14 But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.” Much of the bible is rejected because of a lack of anointing of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:14 “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.”

Many question things they do not understand instead of fearing God so that they can understand. A good place to start is when God questioned Job. God said Job 38:4 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.” He then continues with question after question leaving Job speechless. When God finished Job said Job 42:4 “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’ 5 My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. 6 Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.” That is the appropriate response before God. Most do not and cannot answer these questions. Yes, most of it is unexplainable but I would rather believe in the God who created than believe the figment of man’s imagination called a god particle. Job 9:9 “He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south. 10 He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.” If you are foolish enough not to believe God created the universe in six days and rested on the seventh, you probably won’t believe this either. John 20:30 “Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” John 21:25 “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

David said in Psalm 24:1 “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” Paul said Acts 17:24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.” Don’t be the fool who says in their heart, there is no God. Trust God and live but heed this warning Jeremiah 5:20 “Announce this to the descendants of Jacob and proclaim it in Judah: 21 Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear: 22 Should you not fear me?” declares the Lord. “Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it. 23 But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts; they have turned aside and gone away. 24 They do not say to themselves, ‘Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.’ 25 Your wrongdoings have kept these away; your sins have deprived you of good.” For those not worried about what your heart says or do not tremble before God, God says Obadiah 1:2 “See, I will make you small among the nations; you will be utterly despised. 3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’ 4 Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.” You may think there is no God so no worries. Ignoring God does not negate His word. Many people are so set in their ways there is no room for a sovereign God but Isaiah 2:11 “The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled and human pride brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day. 12 The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted and they will be humbled.” Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
