It’s that time of year again, no not spring - taxes. Every year we drive up to Listowel and have our taxes done. It is usually a happy occasion for us and not the taxman. This year was no different. As we drove up I knew the muffler was getting a little louder than normal. When you drive a mature car it tends to have noises. So I thought we should get this in and have it looked at, but it should be fine. Going through the drive-through should have been a sign. The echo off the wall was probably pretty accurate that it was getting worse. On the way home it was a little louder and then I passed a car. As I pulled out to pass I stepped on it and the noises got louder and louder. It was actually so loud that Laurie and I while laughing could not hear each other. It was really funny but at the same time we are thinking we might not make it home. God’s grace is always amazing and as we went through Mitchel, quite loudly I might add, the muffler fell off at the front pointing forward. We had just passed the Chrysler dealership so we turned around and very loudly and carefully made an entrance with our pipe dragging on the ground and a lot of noise to go with it. We’ll they fixed it temporarily and home we went to get it fixed today. We decided to spend some of our return on the Corolla. So what is with the story? God is warning us to repent. There are signs everywhere around us.  If we do not make the changes we will get caught off guard. 1 Thessalonians 5 (The Day of the Lord) “5 Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labour pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” The muffler just didn’t fall off; it built up to that point. Honestly I ignored it but it got to the point we could no longer ignore it but at the point it was too late. Don’t wait to repent. Don’t wait to give your life totally over to Jesus Christ. He is coming like a thief in the night.
