What a day it must have been for Joshua and the people of Israel when the Lord said to Joshua, “Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. 7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” 10 So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: 11 “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.” (Joshua 1) The anticipation must have been awesome. Here they were finally getting ready to take the Promised Land. After all those years in the desert they are again back looking to finally take the land they were promised. “After three days the officers went throughout the camp, 3 giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. 4 Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it.” 5 Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” Again wow! How amazing this would have been to be part of this nation as they began to take the land. We too have the same opportunity today. The land is here for the taking; this land is our land. We as a church are going to start taking the land back. Yes there are walled cities and giants in the land but God has a given us a promise that wherever our feet have walked will be ours and He said I will defeat your enemies and no one will be able to stand against you. So get ready, get your provisions ready and consecrate yourself to the Lord and follow the word of God into the land. For tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.  How will we know the Lord is among us; He said he would drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. At the end of Joshua’s life he said, “every promise has been fulfilled, not one has failed.” Be very strong and be careful to obey the word of the Lord not turning to the left or to the right. Get ready to take the land.
