As we continue this journey we need to understand that there is no other who is sovereign above God. Deuteronomy 4:39Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below, there is no other Take some time and look up “there is no other” in bible gateway or other tools. It is so important that we acknowledge God as supreme in power. This verse goes on to say, “40 Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time.” This journey should take us to a position of humility before our God and King. Yesterday we talked about the creator of the universe. Since no one else has done that or could do it for that matter, defining sovereign is basically just a few words to further embed in us the notion that God is sovereign. God’s sovereignty means that we acknowledge that the Lord is God in heaven and on the earth below. It is by faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command. So sovereign is defined as “a person who has supreme power or authority. There is no other who has more. Revelation 12:10And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.” Matthew 28:18Jesus said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Once we understand that there is no other this also changes how we live. Acts 4:12And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Once we acknowledge there is no other, we will be part of the kingdom of God. Understanding sovereignty also means we must renew or develop a fear of God. This verse sums up why. Matthew 10:26So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” So as we continue this journey, let us kneel down and acknowledge Him, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God. Leviticus 22:32 “Keep my commands and follow them. I am the Lord. 32 Do not profane my holy name, for I must be acknowledged as holy by the Israelites. I am the Lord, who made you holy 33 and who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord, therefore be holy, because I am holy.”
