Today represents the last day of our journey but really it is just the beginning, just as it was over 2000 years ago. The Easter story is as real today as it was then. Jesus has risen from the dead and will return to judge the living and the dead. This time is getting closer so we need to be radical Christians who daily proclaim the message of the cross and the message of the empty tomb. We also need to be prepared for His return. Acts 1 states, “After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” The good news that Jesus has risen from the dead is still the same. The gift of the Holy Spirit is also still the same. He will send us His Holy Spirit if we obey him and wait upon Him. We need this power from God to be the radical Christian we have been designed to be, one who is unshakable, unwavering, unafraid, willing to be uncomfortable, undignified and unashamed before an indescribable God. Then we will be undeterred (not discouraged) and resolute (firmly resolved or determined in what we believe) so that we are unmovable before God. So let us shout that Jesus is alive and our enemies are conquered. Death has no sting. Come Holy Spirit come.
